Huge shout out to Gioana Lopizzo for finishing under 10 minutes. This must be a massive PR for her, she was about 25 seconds behind Thomsen at NBI nationals and less than 5 seconds behind here.
A very impressive race indeed. Riggs is super solid. Personally, I think that shewould have run much faster if she had chosen to sit at the fron on the pack for 1200m(?) then run hard from there to the finish. She was 3:35-36 at 1200mcpmpletely SOLO. There is another post that mentions the gal in second. She wasperhaps the smoothest of the bunch. At the meet, I mentioned to a co-worker, that if i were a college coach, she would be the one that i would be recruiting (I did not know that she is a SOPH). A phenomenal night at ARCADIA.
Brilliant commentary here... come on, many, any college is going to recruit a 9:55 girl. Heck, any girl sub-10:20.

Everyone knows that girls and boys run the 3200 in high school.
Not all high school meets run the same distances. In New York, girls run the 3000 and the 1500. In Gary Martin's high school conference championships in Pennsylvania, they apparently run the mile and not the 1600, because that is where he broke 4.

If "following the sport" means following US high school track, sure. But there are many, many people who follow track but do not follow US high school track and thus would not know what events Arcadia does or does not run. Given the exuberance of the title, with its all caps and exclamation points, I would imagine that some of these non-high school track followers might click to read about the accomplishment being exclaimed, only to find a discussion about times for a distance that is both unspecified and no frequently run outside of US high school track.

Not true. Riggs ran by herself way in front the whole race. She wasn't pulling the other girls along. The other girls ignored Riggs and ran their own race.
I think it's so cool to see so much depth on the girls side. Sub 10 is equal to what on the boys side? Just curious.
There is no way to know which of these girls will develop and continue to run well in college. These things are kind of unpredictable, but it's the largest talent pool we've ever had so the future is bright.
Same with the boys. Didn't 9 of them run sub 8:50 or something? Exciting stuff in both races!
