The World Indoor Tour final starts in 10 hours, which at least theoretically is the most prestigious indoor meet of the year when there isn't a world indoor champs -- though the fields are a little less weighty than some earl...
Is this a little bit of a duck from Muir/the organizers? She can run the 3000 and the 800 which both have some pretty stiff competition in them (Hodgkinson, Yarigo, Bisset in the 800, Tseguy and Klosterhalfen in the 3000) but she gets a 1000m vs a nothing field?
She's had better indoor seasons where she has tried for the indoor WR in the 1000m and missed so don't see how she'd get it this year when she seems a bit underoocked.
I'd much rather see her head to head vs Hodgkinson or Tseguy rather than yet another WR attempt with low chance of success.
(just watch her go and run a blinder and make me eat my words after typing this).
Laura Muir doesn't duck anyone. She races whether she's fully fit or not. She's already run a a 3k and a mile this season, winning both. She'll then go to Euro Indoor Champs after Birmingham.
She was announced for the 1k ages ago when there were no other athletes announced for the meet. I think she's going for it because she's been close in the past and it's the only WR that is realistically open to her.
There's plenty of athletes I think duck competition, but not Muir
This is why I felt that Muir deserved AOY over Sydney M. Muir puts herself out there, pushes the pace and gives her all.
Sydney, Mu, athletes like them, are afraid to lose.
They really do nothing to promote the sport. They're pro's and should be out there racing, at least more than they are, to get in the public eye more.
I’ve often wondered how much Sowinski makes as a pacer. He is definitely the go to guy for pacing duties and is usually pretty good at it. He could have done a better job at Madrid but overall is good. It must pay well or he would be moving on to something else.
