How does an 8:32 guy get into the 3000? That's not even good enough to run at the high school nationals.

That is weird. He did run a 1:04 half marathon a month ago
Because USATF Indoors takes accepts Outdoor 5k marks for the Indoor 3k. His accepted mark is a 13:57 5k, definitely not mindblowing but significantly better than 8:32. Probably good for ~8:08? Plus that 8:32 was at altitude, so gotta give the guy at least a few seconds to convert.
Still, USATF is definitely struggling to get the best talent in the US at the Indoor Championships. I'm curious to see if they'll make any changes next year to attract more of the top talent.
Henes to the front
First k 3:01
The field is pretty strung out single file already
Val Constein 8:48.29.....they say the conversion is 14 seconds Whitni Orton-Morgan close 2nd.
Wow wasn't expecting Constein to take the win over Orton Morgan. 62 second final 400 and building nice momentum for the steeple in the spring.
Facility record so a nice win for Val as they've had USATF indoors here a ton.
Both Morgan and Constein had a strong kick, but Constein just beat Morgan in the last 5 meters to the line, 8:48.29. She has that steepler speed
