You could also have restrictions on where money spent within the country can come from, and where money earned can go. This allows for a country to avoid foreign involvement in their economy. Also this guarantees an adequate amount of jobs because you can’t just ship your labour off to some country in the global south. While this may not work for a poor country that has to rely on others(ie; Venezuela who got sanctioned to death), a large country like the USA can practice nationalistic economic sanctions and do very well if they can be at least semi self-sufficient and cooperate with their neighbors.
