The shoes(ultimate 81's) arrived today. The fit was so perfect that I was able to go right out and run for over an hour with no problems. I'll be stocking up for sure. Thanks for the tip Eric.

I wish I could find more retro shoes. I can't even locate a place that has models discontinued a few years ago. It says at lot that all the "technology" of the past 2 decades have actually made running shoes worse, and we are all trying to find models from 20 years ago.
It seems that Road Runner Sports and Eastbay occasionally bring back a classic shoe from a few years ago. I think RRS has the original Saucony Jazz and the Brooks Chariot among others.
Eastbay has a few retro models. They're listed as "casual" shoes. I just got a pair of original Waffle Trainers from them for $30. I think it was $30, might have been $40. They're as light as many modern racers and are a blast to run in, as are the Ultimate 81s. I'm rotating the two models now.
The original Saucony Jazz is at Eastbay, so are some Puma models, and they used to sell the Addidas Gazelle, originally a running shoe, in their soccer shoe section, though I don't know if it's still there.
These are pretty cool sites. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Adidas Marathon Trainer??
Here in the UK there is also a bit of a retro craze for old styles and recently Adidas released the old De Castella racer from 84, pale blue with a flourescent sole and stripes, theres a slo a big market in boxfresh stock from the 80's, I recently sawa boxfresh pair of yellow LDV's , the original mesh ones for sale for £450 and a pair of Air Mariah PR for 3250, theers a sight called www.crookedtongues.com which specializes in out of production shoes but its pricey, a nother good sight is www.smallearth.com, I got a boxfresh pair of Nike Niobes a month ago on this site for $10
id say that if you want something very minimalistic and modern because you cant get retro...the adidas cubato is sound...light as hell...i wouldnt do much training on roads with this shoe however.
I resurrected a pair of Nike Terra T/C's - circa 1983(the original phylon midsole, curved "banana" last, 7-8 ounces) that I had buried in my basement . Although the midsole is way beyond it's useful life expectancy and shelf life, the shoe still has the same basic comfort and ride as it did 23 years ago. I'm 135 pounds and the shoe is still one of the best training/racing shoes I've ever had in my 34 years of competitive running
