Mu vs. McLaughlin 400m: Who do you pick?

I don't care what Ato said. Winning the NCAA 400 does not equal winning the 2023 World Championships.

McLaughlin would win by a smidge.

Kersee would prepare McLaughlin better and have her peak better and race a better pace. (I don't like Kersee but I'm being honest.)

Mallard is a nice guy but he isn't at Kersee's level as a coach.

Source: I have personal experience with Mallard. He's not that sharp. He's just lucky that Mu is a freak of nature.

Right now, it would be a tossup, but if they trained for it, I am almost certain it would be
McLaughlin. Mu is a half-miler who is also very good at the 400m, but without a lot of raw speed, there is a limit to how fast she can ever be in the 400m. Sydney is a world class sprinter with enormous potential in any sprint and since the 400m is a sprint-advantage to Sydney. If Sydney focused on the 400m for a season, she could challenge the world record. I have watched Mu sprint in training and she is not as fast as people think she is; I doubt she could break 23 in the 200m which is why she will likely never run faster than 48-mid in the 400m. Her 400m performances are a product of strength and efficiency as opposed to raw speed. On the other hand, Sydney's is a natural fast twitch athlete and in spite of what some people surmise, she would probably suck at the 800m.

If by "challenge" you mean get within 1.5 seconds of it, then I agree.
