Anna Hall on pace to SMASH the Collegiate Heptathlon Record

She's had a personal best in 2 of the first 3 events. Her score is 140 points ahead of her score through 3 at USATF championships (she was only about 70 points off the collegiate record there).If she has a chance to break the collegiate record heading into the 800 - will her coach tell her to go for it? She has the 400h final 20 minutes after the 800 and Florida should be in contention for a team title. Does she send it in the 800 for the record or does she run easy so she can bounce back and score well in the 400h? She should have a big lead heading into the 8 and won't need to run 100%.

Anna Hall ran a 2:03.11 800 AFTER 6 previous events. She doesn't train for the 8 or the 400 hurdles. She just jogged a 54.48 in the 400h.

There is a huge difference between a 2:03.xx and a 1:55.xx. Same with taking her PR in the 400 hurdles (she did not jog, but rather ran and efficient pr). To say that she is not training for those events is disingenuous. She does not train exclusively for those events, but the meat and potatoes of Anna Hall's training is very conducive to being a successful long sprinter.

The best multi's start to creep their way into successful international competition in open events. Anna Hall is no different, but she is not on the same level as Sydney in the 4H or Mu in the 800. You would not compare a 1:48.XX college athlete to Rudisha (same time gap), or a Squirrel Burrell to Karston Warholm. When I was a DI multi that also ran 400 and 400H, I did many of my long interval days over hurdles. So just because she is not a "400 Hurdle only" athletes, she is close to where she would be if that was her primary focus.

Warholm started off as a decathlete and then switched his focus to the 400h and broke the world record.

Watch her race here - she slowed down 15 meters out of the finish, easily was on pace for under 54. Started slow, wasn't leading until the last 100m. Wasn't tired at all at the end.

She's 9th in the world right now in the 400h....in a prelim, training as a heptathlete. She has a faster 200m PR and 100h than Bol and Muhammad.

Her 54.76 in the final as her 8th event in 3 consecutive days is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen.

Thursday - 400h prelim

Friday - 1st 4 events of hep - 100h, 200, HJ and SP

Saturday - long jump, jav, then 54.76 in the 400h.

Keep in mind she's constantly warming up, cooling down, doing run throughs to get her steps, etc.

She's possibly talented enough to beat Athing Mu in the 800 and Syd in the 400h if she trained exclusively for those events. The world record in the hep is just insane.

Ryann Kraise from Kansas State did the same double in 2011. She won the hept and finished 3rd in the 400h (her first year doing them).
