i mean if you have the equipment for 100m in one direction... can't you just move it to the other end of the track? they've done this at plenty of other meets
Basically No. I mean you could if you want to wait for them to do that and calibrate the timing equipment (remember its to 1/1000 of a second). Meetings that do this are set up to do this beforehand with two sets of timing equipment. Basically the USA is the only place that has the money for this. Hence even at meetings like Gateshead if its into the wind its into the wind.
i think a 10 minute delay would be worth not having so many DNSes and ridiculous times, i mean Knighton beating Blake in 10.61 is nuts. might as well not have the event then
Etiang, a man among boys!! LOL. Obsessed with his watch. That was epic!
Pretty ballsy the way he combined stopping his watch, celebrating the victory, and winning by less than a tenth of a second. Maybe it will be on Strava later.
Nice race for Etiang, glad to see him go for it and I think he had a second gear ready, don't think the win was really in doubt.
Seems like the timing equipment is all messed up, 9 of the 24 intermediate splits were not recorded. Not looking too great for this meet organizationally so far

Very funny race. The celebration cracked me up, as did his “oh I have to try” move with 25 meters to go followed by “I got this” and easing down/celebrating with 10 meters to go. If he wins Kenyan trials he’s going to go full Ezekiel Kemboi.
That was one of the craziest 1500's I've ever seen. Etiang almost coughed up a huge lead because he slowed down to stop his watch. And he stopped the watch way short of the finish line, no way that was an accurate split anyway!
Etiang reminds me of how Kiprop used to play with the field in diamond league races. A crazy talent, you know he would have a 3rd, 4th and 5th move ready if anyone else in the field came close to him
I guess once you have built a stadium and then realize there's an echo from the gun that makes it sound like a false start there's not much you can do.

Ok. Glad Jon liked it too. Thought it was super entertaining after thinking halfway through this is the biggest waste of time ever.
Ato Boldon said, "you can watch 100 pro 1500ms and you'll never see another one like that."

I wonder if the athletes were told beforehand not to react if they hear an echo? On the broadcast, it sounds like a false start every race but no one has pulled up yet.
