He's definitely an aerobic monster, but he's got a lethal finishing kick to go on top of it. He's got the kind of speed it takes to make Olympic and WC teams.

If he could have run much faster, he wouldn't have been pacing. As a spectator, I would rather have Kessler run 3:53 than pace Nick Willis to sub 4:00.

Pretty obvious he wasnt. Why do people think Warhurst would let him take a spot in the Millrose Mile to pace his teammate who was already being dragged to a sub 4??

Willis literally mentioned in the post-race interview that Hobbs had an off day.

Hobbs Kessler ran a 3:51 equivalent so he is 7 seconds behind that. That is a big difference though it is still early.

That was outdoors in the summer, so not really a fair comparison but I do see your point. I also don't see Sahlman being a true miler, will probably be a 3k-5k guy with a fast mile/1500 PB.

He'd have to give it a go in summer, I don't see why not. 3:58 mile is amazing for a high schooler as is, btw. Not everybody has to be running 10k and marathon, see J.Ingebrigtsen.

I know it’s a good time for a high schooler. I know not everybody has to run long distances. Let’s just see how it plays out in the future.

5th fastest high school boy ever after Webb, Ryun, Kessler, and Hunter? And it's still early Feb.

Why is the coach always running out to hug his runners? Why does he feel.the need to put himself into the spotlight?

He has serious range, hard to say what his best event will be but 3:58 mile and 14:02 5k (probably sub 14 on the track rn) is so damn impressive. I kind of hope Sahlman makes an attempt at the 5k HS record but it’ll be tough

I can’t imagine being able to say I am a pro with a straight face then lose to a highschool kid
