For Shalane, long my favorite female runner, where is the over/under? I think she goes sub 2:30. Fast enough to make her try a "real" marathon as an elite athlete next spring.

Would be cool to see her go all-out minus the fact that she has all these other marathons in her legs. I feel like 2:35 is probably close to her ceiling rn. Muscle memory at 5:50-6:00 pace. If she goes with the elite women and drops a 5:20 at mile 10 then she could run 2:50. Who knows. Here for it tho. Think she should start with the elites.

Want her to go for the masters AR in the spring. & I like Shalane but, yeah, this seems like a stunt to get us off of burrito-gate. Shalane is either naive or complicit or both. But what she's doing is still very impressive.

She said in an interview that she came up with the idea to do project Eclipse at the end of 2020/early 2021. I really don't think she could have forseen burrito-gate turning out so badly at that point. It does seem like she and the other coaches should have released some sort of statement by now, though.

I'm really hoping she goes for it and runs closer to 2:30!

So badly? Well, once Shelby was caught with roids, the four year ban was unavoidable. So, they went into PR damage control right from the start, which actually went quite well:

1) They succeeded in keeping the provisional suspension a secret (against AIU policy).

2) They succeeded in keeping the official notice of charge a secret (against AIU policy).

3) They succeeded in skipping the decision of the Disciplinary Tribunal (against AIU policy).

4) They succeeded in publishing the ban on their terms in a well rehearsed press conference, with no critical questions from the invited journalists.

All of the above is quite rare since the AIU was created. As such, it feels like a special, secret procedure to many, as if Shelby was "railroaded". But in contrast, all those steps were done by request of Team Shelby as a PR exercise.

Now many fans think they had no appeal yet, while they actually lost the final appeal in a unanimous decision that Shelby doped intentionally. Hence the full four year ban, no reason for any reduction at all.
