Do you have a source for that stat? What the hell does it even mean? That over 4 in 10 people in Kenya die over what period of time? In a year? That makes no sense.

Statistically, tragic but not unexpected occurrences. Not unexpected that we'll known athletes will be caught up in these, statistics. Move to Switzerland if you want a long, healthy life. Or even Canada or Britain.
These are 2019 figures. Not sure what the figures will be after covid but it will be interesting if Kenyan life expectancy doesnt adjust all that much and American does.

America has plenty of champions, just not at distance running. I can’t think of any that died in their 20s.

"The adult mortality rate shown in the World Development Indicators (WDI) database and related products refers to the probability that those who have reached age 15 will die before reaching age 60 (shown per 1,000 persons). In other words, a value of 150 means that out of 1,000 persons who have reached age 15, 150 are expected to die before reaching age 60, and 850 are expected to survive to age 60. This is based on a “synthetic cohort”: current life-table mortality rates are applied to the current cohort of 15 year olds, assuming no changes in mortality."
