I'd agree. Probably closer to 1:48 than 1:42.

Ask him to run it. you'll have your answer.

He obviously has great basic speed and considerable strength over the hurdles. Hard to imagine him breaking a sweat running a flat 400m in 51. Could he do two back-to-back for 1:42?
NO!!!!!
There is a hungarian 20 year old hurdler (won european youth) 51.5 -400 hurdles and 47.1 400meters , trains 10-20 miles a week and ran 1.48.1 indoor and 1.47 mid this year.
My guess is that Warholm could run 1.45 low or 1.44 high now, and could run 1.42 low with 800m training.
He could try to run it a few times at least if he was any good at it but he knows too well he wouldn't be a contender even on national level.

All it takes is a 1:47 to be a contender at the national level he could easily do that with training.
1:47 - contender for what? That wouldn't even be enough for the podium. (I didn't go to the archives but Norway had two 3:30 1500 guys the last time I checked.)

National championships, Norway only has a few 800m runners anyway and none are elite.
Warholm could maybe run 800m in 2:00.
He is a 10.52 / 100m sprinter and his 800m effort would be comparable to that of a decathlete.
All these 1:47 people here are insanely delusional.

I said 1:47 with training but even 1:47 without training wouldn't be un heard of for a 400m hurdler

Exactly. He goes through 400 in around 53, which is only a mere 8 seconds off his PR to begin with, and then around 450-500 it hits hard - mental and physical wall. He struggles the last lap in 65, slowing with every passing meter, arms flailing around and ultimately puking up last night's cod as he cross the line in last place.
Wariner ran 1:53
Thanks to the responses RE thoughts on Felix's 800 potential.
To the poster who suggested she would run 2:07, you're out of your f-ing mind...
Slower than Sinclair Johnson (US)?
Slower than Lyndsey Sharp (UK)?
Slower than Sage Hurta (US)?
Slower than Keely Small (Aus)?
Slower than Isabelle Boffey (UK)?
Slower than Rachel Schneider (US)?
The disrespect is insane.

I doubt that it would work even with specific training. Warholm comes from a decathlon background, imagine training Ashton Eaton for a 800m - insane task.
There also have been only one 400m hurdler that managed that shift: Harald Schmid.
We are talking about the same Warholm that is notoriously fast over the first half of the 400h, right? Not sure he is the prototype for moving up in distance.
He also did 10.52 at a random meet in norway along with other events in 2016. Rai did 21.29 in the 200m the same year and it's not like he has improved since
When I watch this guy run, he is all adrenaline. 800m is more about even paces than all out sprint. I don't think he could be consistent.

A mere 8 seconds off of his 400m PR? I can confidently negative split an 800m opening in 8 seconds off of my 400m PR. Most pro guys open 3-5 seconds off of their 400m PR, granted, they have better endurance. I open 4-5 seconds off of my PR currently.

David Patrick was another
And if you include ones that shifted focus from the hurdles to the 800, you also have Brandon Johnson and Dobek
Bershawn “Batman” Jackson ran low-mid 1:50’s in some of his best years’ early-season races. But, then again, Curtis Beach could pop 1:47 while decathlon training, in his college days. I’d give him 1:50.
Side note: It’d be nice if 400 hurdles/400m/800m folks met more often for 600m races. Which 400h/400 folks could hold on for a 1:15point?
