Oh. Then Warholm can split 42/low 43 easily.

I can't think of a 51 second low hurdle that had any trouble running 48/47. Talking about a 47 flat low hurdler is totally different. But yes he probably could split mid 43.

Yes but also Mu ran 48.85 by herself basically so I wouldn't be surprised if she went a little faster.
And that was after having run an individual 400 an hour or two beforehand.

The best 2 400m runners are Mu and McLaughlin, then you have the top the trials.
1 Quanera Hayes 49.78
2 Allyson Felix 50.02
3 Wadeline Jonathas 50.03
4 Kendall Ellis 50.10
5 Kaylin Whitney 50.29
6. Lynna Irby 50.35
Timetable is like this and here are my suggestions on who runs
FRIDAY
- 800 heats (Mu)
- mixed 4 x 400 heats (Jonathas & Ellis or Ellis & Whitney - not sure if Jonathas would want to run but 3rd and 4th or 4th and 5th - if Jonathas wants to run she runs)
SATURDAY
- 400m H heats (McLaughlin)
- 800m semis (Mu) - then 2 days off
- Mixed 4 x 400m final (Hayes & Felix - 1 & 2 from the trials)
SUNDAY - nothing
MONDAY
- 400m H semis (McLaughlin)
TUESDAY
- W 400m Round 1 (Hayes, Felix & Jonathas)
- 800m final (Mu)
WEDNESDAY
- 400m H final (McLaughlin - morning in Japan for the US fans)
- W 400m semis (Hayes, Felix & Jonathas)
THURSDAY
- 4 x 400m heats - I would run (1) Mu (she has had 2 days off and as an 800 runner could handle it ok, + she didn't run the mixed 4x400), (2) Ellis, (3) Whitney and (4) Irby -
FRIDAY
- 400m final (assuming Hayes, Felix & Jonathas)
SATURDAY
- 4 x 400m final (Mu, McLaughlin, Hayes & Felix)
I wonder if the US selectors will consider Mu and McLaughlin. Surely Mu - won NCAAs with a faster time than the 400m runners at the trials and ran a 48.8 last leg same day, backing up.
I appreciate you putting a lot of thought into this but no athlete who is in an individual event is going to run a relay leg prior to that individual event. So eliminate all of them from all relays until their individual events are completed.
.
The other countries did in 2019 and I think the USA did too.
That's because you are thinking of guys. You are looking at it in reverse. 47 second guys turn into 51 second hurdlers because they don't have perfect form. A 51 second woman has perfect form. A guy on my son's team this year ran 50 but only split 48 in the 4x4.

None of the mixed relay runners in 2019 ran in an individual event.
You are right, mostly because a girl has never run a 51 until now. And we are probably just pulling our examples from different sample sets. Most 50-point hurdlers I can think of are running 46 splits and opens. Another factor can also be how polished they are. The more polished the hurdlers, the smaller the gap will be between their hurdle and 400 time. Sydney is probably as polished as they come, which might mean she doesn't have the foot speed to run a 47 or low 48. But unfortunately I don't think we'll get to find out because I don't think she'll run a 400 split against any type of competition.

McLaughlin isn't a particularly polished hurdler but I'm not sure she has the footspeed to run any faster than a low 49 out of the blocks. She can run a mid to low 48 on a leg right now.

The mixed relay for the US will consist of those who finished, likely, 5 through 8th in the 400m events at the OTs. Even the alternates may not run the relays until their even has started and it is known they will not be needed to run an individual event.
Just confirming what happened in 2019
USA - individual 400m runners were Phyllis Francis, Wadeline Jonathas and Shakima Wimbley
Mixed 4 x 400m heat (Day 1, Saturday) was
Tyrell Richard
Jessica Beard
Jasmine Blocker
Obi Igbokwe
Mixed 4 x 400m final (Day 2, Sunday) was
Wilbert London
Allyson Felix
Courtney Okolo
Michael Cherry
Women 400m heats were day 3, Monday, with semi on day 4 (Tuesday) and a day off Wednesday, final Thursday. Salwa Eid Nasr ran heats and final of the mixed 4 x 400 before her incredible (if likely assisted) 400m final run. That was her 5th 400m from Saturday to Thursday.
So you're right for the USA. Looks like USA ran 6th and 7th from the trials in the heats and 4th and 5th in the final.
Then the women's 4 x 400m, which was after all individual events, USA Ran:
4 x 400m heat
Jessica Beard
Allyson Felix
Kendall Ellis
Courtney Okolo
4 x 400m final - and won by 3 seconds
Phyllis Francis
Sydney McLaughlin
Dalilah Muhammad
Wadeline Jonathas
Did not pick Wimbley even though she made individual 400m
Nice to have that sort of depth.

Correct - see above. USA can get away with it because of the incredible depth.

??? Why would the US run a 4x4 of Whitney, Irby, Manson, and Anderson in the final?

Mixed 4x400m is the reference. That event is completed prior to or during the time the US individuals will be running so you will see mixed relay with the 5th through 8th finishers.
Try and keep up.
I am not a fan of the mixed relays. DOn't really get the point. BUt it is really nice to give an opportunity to those athletes who worked their butts off and fell just short.
The string you replied to was me talking about the actual 4x4 team that's running in the all women's final, I already stated earlier that I think Manson, Whitney, Irby, Anderson, and Ellis are all options for the mixed 4x4.
Try and keep up.

For the countries that do not have huge 400m depth (ie all countries bar 1 or 2), this is a great event.
It has the added complication of changing order.
Looking forward to it.
