She sounds like an idiot. Most American athletes do. I was impressed by the young decathlete who had the pr's. He could form a complete sentence that wasn't full of meaningless superlatives and incomplete sentences. I hate it when athletes start every response with the phrase "I mean...". I cringe...
Give me articulate athletes who can respond to questions in an intelligible way. Like Damian Warner, Justin Knight, Allison Felix, Classy! Love 'em. Even someone like Bernard Lagat speaks better English than many native US athletes. Shacarri is full of bombast - which I guess gets track more attention, so I suppose I should be happy. But the others enlighten me with their responses.
Anyway, probably opened a can of worms, but I'm tired of vacuous athlete interviews full of meaningless sentence fragments.
You have a pretty good idea of what questions they're going to ask you - take 2 minutes out of your training and formulate a few stock responses.
95% of the questions asked are cliched and trite anyway. And most athlete’s answers are cliched and boring. I don’t expect athletes to be eloquent or dazzle me with their intellect. I don’t particularly care if they are humble or polite. I just want them to be entertaining – that’s their job. Richardson is entertaining and she puts on a show when she is out there. And she backs it up on the track. I'm a fan.
