Joe Maddon rule: “ if you think you look good, wear it.”
Perhaps this is a male mating ritual at BYU, similar to how a male peacock courts a female? When one wants to marry, showeth thy balls.
like I always say, shorts over tights
Although it afforded bonus entertainment feature for us, I'd wager he'd have placed higher but it not for that. I mean,....the drag coefficient alone likely slowed him a good 2 seconds!!!
Maybe it represents a reaction to the repressed sexuality at BYU, that is expressing in a very overt but devious way. A couple things to consider, the puritan values at BYU are are clearly strong and part of heritage and current functioning. This is a clear deviance from that heritage.
We all know when our junk slips out and shows. We particularly know when we are standing after a race. The normal thing to do is to pull your shorts down to cover up. Yet this didn't happen. The coaches all know when balls are showing. The fact that is happened repeatedly at different events show that on some level it was intentional.
The fact it is occurring at BYU a college that pressures staff and students to be wholesome and modest, speaks volumes.
Maybe if the college let up on its sexually repressive pressures students wouldn't have to be displaying their testicles (by accident of course) in highly public settings.
If he knew this was an issue, why not bring spandex?
Was there no way pop em back into place during the race?
As far as the women's uniforms, I saw no issue after watching the women's steeple, 1500m or 800m. There are videos of women's races out there where the bunhuggers rode up like a thong. I guess that happens with improperly fitted attire.
PS: yes there used to be a bunhuggers thread. Pretty sure it went way back to the early 2000s

Has anyone ever had their testicles hanging out of their shorts and not know it. You certainly know it if you have at least average or larger size testicles.
No one is that self unaware not to realize. That fact it is BYU kids who are suppose to be so holy and modest is very weird.
That picture of the runner after the race with his testicle hanging out, might be small, but he still needs to cover up. Its an embarrassment to runners. Don't be a nerd.
I'd say those were decent sized plums. How many guys here would be unaware that your sack was out and free bouncing back and forth in the Oregon air? It's never happened to me (not sure if mine would be as noticeable as his), but I imagine I'd notice pretty soon, slip back in the pack out of range of the cameras and do a quick reposition... but then I had a buddy who seemed oblivious when he was sporting a stiff flagpole, so maybe some guys just don't feel things...?
I finally got around to watching the NCAA XC race on YouTube. Mantz ran an incredible race. He went out with Kiptoo, dropped into no man's land, worked with Wildschutt to regain contact with the lead and then gapped everyone over the last 1K. His stride and turnover were impressive.
You guys seemed to be staring at his crotch. Maybe it's time for some self-reflection.

I have never seen anyone pull up their shorts as high as that guy. His shorts were pulled up so high it would be impossible for anyone's "plums" not to show. The shorts were so high, a woman's vag even would look big.
If you run with your boys hanging out and you don't cover up, yeah it will be noticed.
Of course any male would feel themselves coming out and dangling. "oh I didn't notice that I am dangling out".....yeah right
Foul
I think alot of people think this was done on purpose. I'm still not sure if that is the case. However, the more I think about it...it does seem hard not to think it might have been. Especially with what happened in XC, how was this not talked about on the team. How did he not know during the race?
Was this a way to get some attention on ESPN? A bit funny if so. Also a bit embarrassing for D runners!
Funny, I watched ncaa xc and thought Mantz was great - but never noticed anything to do with his kit. Couldn't have been as egregious as the steeplechase dude. I agree though; having a hard time believing it was accidental bc it would be so hard not to just know, if nothing else due to the discomfort... either way, BYU guy is famous now, for a very non-Mormon reason...

I think having the shorts ride up high as possible helps to not restrict his hip muscle during the jumps.

It's old school to have the shorts ride up high like that. It means your a respectable young lad with a sense of proper style.
