    It's income according to the IRS. That's why.

    As a side note when I was a server my hourly wage was $2.12 per hour. If our tips plus hourly wage did not meet minimum wage over a pay period they would bump it to minimum wage. It sucked but hey, capitalism.

    That's not capitalism that's whether your state allows tip credits.
