I think he decided not to go back because he would've had to quarantine too much. They don't have a strict qualifier so he can still be chosen for team without going.

No, this race will not be won in 3:31 (lol). Some people act like every time out is a perfectly paced, peak fitness time trial in ideal weather. I think Hocker will win, but color me surprised if it’s in under 3:36.

Could you explain how they would go about shortening a track? I imagine the easiest thing to do would be to shorten the entire facility, else the dimensions would be off to the naked eye.

Correct line of thinking. 3:36 would be outstanding. Hardly ever see straight line progression from successful indoor to outdoor season. I really like Cole and would love to be proven wrong.
Of course it depends on weather conditions and how good the pacing will be but....
I really don´t see why Hocker shouldn´t challenge his indoor 3:50 mile running 3:33 or even faster.
Call me a pessimist but I’ll go with a cautious 3:35 with a huge last 400. Wouldn’t bet against 3:31 at Pre or Monaco tho

Maybe because this is an actual race with actual competition and not a controlled, dual time trial run indoors with a 3:50 partner pacing in perfect conditions with no traffic or tactics.

Because:
- optimized relaid indoor track with great pacers
- season opener / mild rust buster after backing off
- looking to simply lay down a mark, not bust it to the moon
This isnt in a vacuum and it isnt as ideal + conditions little windy/swirly
I think 3:35high is a reasonable guess, anywhere 3:34mid-3:37mid makes sense
Wow, some proper stacked fields. I cannot wait for the mouthwatering 1500. The metric mile is my favorite event. The field for the Olympics this year will be insane with the Kenyans, Jakob, Hocker and Teare, assuming they can deliver the goods during the trials.

The shoes, not the tracks, are the reason for the fast times. You can't take a 200m indoor track and make it suddenly 198m.

Yes it would shock me. 3:50.XX is a 3:34 and that was perfect time trial situation with only a few people actually racing sitting behind a pacer. I'd be impressed if he runs 3:34 in this race.

Mantz may run the 10 instead, he's entered in both and I have to assume that means he'll pick which to run at some point. 5/10 double would be badass but probably counterproductive to try.
