Consumer Reports or an automotive site with professional reviewers and journalists, not a site populated exclusively by ricers or redneck intake-modifiers.

Ok, the "taper" line was a joke. I thought it was kinda funny considering I have not been running to begin with. You gotta admit it was funny.
I am doing the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. Oct. 2. This weekend.
alright, i was afraid of this... no way am i bashing recreation runners or people who are slower than i am. i am good friends with people that don't take the sport as seriously and perhaps won't break 4 hours. nothing wrong with that. i ran a 30K tune up a few weeks ago, in which slower runners were allowed to start an hour early. there was nothing but support and respect from them and myself as i ran past them throughout the race. also, i have taught runnning classes to people with no experience. however, i can't support a guy who comes on here and says i am a lazy ass and have done nothing, help me. as a side note, notwithstanding, i support what you guys are doing with your weekly thread, i think that is a great asset to many runners.

The company I worked for sponsored the Chicago marathon in the 70s bringing it back from a time when it wasn't held for a period of time. The day before the race, I realized that no one from my company, (Chicago Health Clubs) was running, so I decided I would. I had severly pulled a hamstring 3 months earlier and had not run a step on the flat since. I was keeping in shape by lifting weights and running up sixty stories in a highrise. I ran one mile the day before, and felt good. I started the marathon running 8 minute miles and it was easy for fifteen. I caught rigormortis at eighteen and that was all for me. I would repeat the advise of others, go out slow. I would add to use lubricant to prevent chaffing, and be prepared for a week of intense pain afterward. You will be worthless for a while. Go ahead, run it. As a veteran of 20+ marathons, I will enjoy seeing you at the 18, 19 or even 23 mile mark.
FYI: you are not a marathoner.
Marathoners TRAIN for their marathons, and have a pace, goal, and schedule. This is a lark. I golf once every month or so. Does that make me a golfer? I swim and bike on occasion, does that make me an ego-driven trif**?

In a nutshell, that is what bothers some people, that he will complete the distance on NO none nada training. Forget about time, just that he will do it bothers them as it shows the marathon not to be the be all and end all.
This is obviously a troll:
1. He posted at letsrun and he's "not a runner". A non-runner would take the obvious route and go to RW. Most folks don't know this site exists, plus you don't need to register to post.
2. He used the word "taper".
Then again there are a couple J.Z.s registered for the LFM. I checked the website. I also ran there names thru the result section at marathonguide.com and a couple have no results for a marathon, which means they are likely 1st timers. It is not that bad of a story.
Also, if you are looking for a running message board this one is not hard to find if you use google. That will most certainly come as a shock to the many who post here asking basic questions without checking google 1st.

Seriously who would make up a joke about a taper and think its funny? I doubt many non-runner would. This guy is a real runner who is pulling your chain.
Is it possible that this guy used to run high school and knows some of the lingo like taper?
This is not unusual.
There are plenty of former runners out there who end up running a marathon on little to no training. I'll be one of them this weekend.
Granted, I have been probably running between 20-30 miles per week since June.

exvaulter, You must be old like me. I haven't seen rigormortis used in years. I think Bill Cosby made that term famous in the middle 70's.
I don't think Wejo takes the time to go through each post in order to correct spelling and grammer errors. Could you imagine how long that would take?
