Good places to train at altitude this summer? Boulder, flagstaff, Montana? etc

Red Lodge, MT is a cool mountain town. It has a great Main Street. Pretty basic, but I like it a lot. You can drive up to 10,000ft or so on Beartooth Pass, or run up to Hell Roaring plateau. You could make weekend trips to Yellowstone and a lot of other cool places. The actual town is at 5,500 feet with tons of topography to the south.

Don’t go to Crested Butte. Full of rich yuppies on fat bikes in the summer, too high in altitude IMHO (slower everything and more tired), and it’s difficult finding flat dirt/road for easy recovery running and workouts. The single track trails and climbing are excellent- obviously a great place for mountain bikes. Expensive for getting groceries. The sweet spot in altitude is 6500-8000ft.

Los Alamos - 7,320 ft

Steamboat Springs - 6,732

Alamosa - 7,543

Ely - 6,437

Lake Tahoe. You can live on either the Nevada or California side. Elevation is 6,225ft. Not far from Carson City (4,800ft) and Reno (4,500ft).
