You sort of fell into a trap by only listing distance runners. Some people limit their interest to medalists and some people limit their interest to distance only.

Off course it's the spikes, Purrier is good no doubt but she's no Simpson yet, it's not just AR records falling national records everywhere are falling everywhere by runners who have no business doing it. Its not just the track, road records have been obliterated.

Record books should be rewritten post and pre 2016

Proof that conservative women are faster and stronger than the liberal radical leftist/vegan extremists.

Add Karissa Schweizer to that group with her Catholic Midwestern upbringing.

She broke the indoor US mile record last winter before covid ruined all real racing opportunities, now she smashes the 2 mile record, running 8:35 3k split with a huge negative split. WTF does "local chick" mean? Who cares if she grew up on a farm or went to a smaller school? She is one of the most genetically gifted athletes in the world.

Her story is not proof that any random person can break American records. Her story is proof that genetics trumps everything.

Good point. She finished 17th at NXN in high school so this isn't some huge shock.

She was likely running the lowest mileage out of everyone in the race, too. 32nd at NXN as a junior.

USATF Junior national champion in the steeplechase, finished 9th in the steeplechase at World Junior Championships in 2014.

Nobody should be surprised that she can be top 10 in the world 7 years after being a top 10 U-20 athlete.
