Stock analysts can be such putzes. They somehow want to believe that if only GM had a better Volt, or the Bolt, or whatever, they would somehow be competitive with Tesla. They miss the fact that prior to Tesla, everyone thought electric cars were only for environmentalists who wanted to drive a tiny box that had no performance....people like Ed Begley, Jr. Musk made the electric car SEXY and it sells. People identify Tesla as a performance car, good looking, sexy, etc. No one is excited about driving a Chevy electric car, are they? Maybe that new electric Mustang, but not the Volt, Bolt, whatever.
GM should have used their manufacturing capacity that went offline when Pontiac, Saturn, etc, were shut down to build an EV division that used a new nameplate that could be identified not with your parents (Buick), rednecks (Chevy), or old people (Cadillac), and instead with cutting-edge tech aimed squarely at gen-x and below.
