Athletics Australia is an absolute disgrace. The mafia wins once again. Maurie committed the lowest act in sport. This really shows the corruption and nature of the people in Australian and World Athletics.

Page 22 of one of the reports from the Senate enquiry states that Jane Flemming gave in camera evidence that:
"Mr Plant came up to me at the javelin throwing area and asked me if I would urinate in a bottle for Sue Howland because she had been picked for testing. He gave me a drink bottle. I went and weed in the bottle and apparently it got passed off as Sue's urine sample." The report recognises that action as an "attempt to corrupt a drug test".
Further down on page 28, the report says that:
"The committee understands that Athletics Australia has now taken action against Mr Plant. The committee has received a copy of a letter dated 12 March 1990 from Athletics Australia to the Chairman of the Australian Sports Commission. The letter advsies that Mr Plant acknowledged a potentional error of judgement, and it has been agreed that he will not be considered for an further managerial positions with Australian Athletic teams."

there is a lot of hypocrisy in athletics.

but it is all on the record what he did in the past, and i am glad some choose to remind people of past events, while others want to honour him because of his heavy involvement in sport.

Pick your side.

He was a gregarious likeable bloke and for a lot of people this tended to override his past indiscretions.

Anyway, all history now, but they shouldn't be naming an athletics event after him IMO.

Ihave just started a petition to change the name of this meet. Even if you are not Australian, I urge you to sign it - Athletics around the world has enough of an image problem as it is without naming one of its sanctioned events after a drug cheat
