The nine qualifying meets for the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships

The OK State men & NAU women impressed. There was drama out West, where the Gonzaga & Portland men surprised as Oregon & Washington failed to qualify.

All nine men's regionals have been completed and we have our 31 projected qualifiers.
The big developments on the men's side?
-The Furman men were expected to auto-qualify in the Southeast but finished 8th and now they won't go to NCAAs at all. Meanwhile the NC State men weren't expected to go, but they finished 3rd and will earn an at-large spot.
-Gonzaga stepped up and ran great and finished 2nd in the West. Likewise Portland was 3rd and are going to NCAAs as well. Neither was projected to qualify before regionals.
-Montana State got 5th at the Mountain regional and will be going to NCAAs
-Oregon men were only 7th at the West regional and will not be going to NCAAs
Reminder: these are unofficial projections based on Bo Waggoner's computer program at XCquals.com.

OK State men sent a message at the Midwest Regional, going 1-2-3-5-8 with Denis Kipngetich (who was off his game at Big 12s and finished 14th) leading the way with a comfortable 10-second victory.

The men's Great Lakes regional is wrapping up soon and the final regional of the day, the West, will start in five minutes. Every other race has been completed and added into our latest projection, which can be found here:

Here's the output for the final at-large spot on the women's side from Bo's program. Oregon State had 14 points -- an enormous number -- but because they finished so far down the field at the West Regional (9th), they were blocked by a bunch of teams without points and won't be going to NCAAs.
Teams under consideration by points: 4 Harvard 1 Michigan, New Mexico, Penn, Wake Forest 0 LSU, Gonzaga, Georgia Tech, Northwestern Others with points: Oregon State (14), North Carolina (3), UCLA (2), Duke (2), Portland (2), Columbia (1), Boston University (1), Connecticut (1), SMU (1), Ohio State (1) 31: Harvard (#4 Northeast) is selected, has losses to (Nuttycombe Invite) Oregon State;

Stanford has topped Oregon at the West regional which means all nine regionals are complete.
The real drama out West came farther down the results. Oregon State women were projected to finish 4th in the region and qualify at-large. But OSU had an awful day and finished 9th. That opened up an extra at-large spot, which goes to...Harvard.
That means there were two differences from our pre-regional projections. One is that Boston College surprisingly auto-qualified in the Northeast. That meant Harvard needed an at-large spot, and they took the one that would have gone to Oregon State. The other surprise was Texas A&M taking 2nd in the South Central instead of Tulane. That means the Aggie women are going dancing for the first time in 23 years.
Full field below. Remember, these are unofficial projections based on Bo Waggoner's computer program -- which has traditionally been very accurate:

Notre Dame women win the Great Lakes and Georgetown wins the Mid-Atlantic with Wisconsin and Penn State grabbing the other auto spots in those regions. Here's how the projected qualifiers look with only the West to go...

NAU men rolled in the Mountain region, scoring 36 to BYU's 89. In the Southeast, UNC dominated wirh 38 ahead of Eastern Kentucky. And in the Northeast, Iona got the surprise win with Harvard 2nd and Syracuse 3rd. Here's how the projected qualifiers shake out after the South, Southeast, Northeast, and Mountain results:

We just finished the Midwest (OK State and Iowa State) and South Central (Arkansas and Texas A&M) races. There was a little surprise with Texas A&M beating out Tulane for the second auto spot in the South Central but no changes to the at-large teams selected. The NCAA picture is taking shape...

Here's the women's field after the results of the South, Southeast, Mountain, and Northeast.
There's only one significant change from the pre-regional projections. Originally, Harvard was projected to qualify in 2nd and Boston College was expected to take 4th. Those two flipped in the results, which means BC now gets in automatically and Harvard is projected to be out of the meet entirely. Providence (3rd Northeast) still gets in as an at-large but they're closer to the bubble as they are currently the last team in.

The good news for the NC State women is that they won the Southeast Regional. The bad news is that Amaris Tyynismaa -- who needs to run well if NC State is to beat NAU at nationals -- DNF'd for the second straight race. At ACCs, she dropped out with 800 to go but today she did not make it as far as she was 10th at 3.5k but did not have a split at 5k. Tyynismaa, the 2020 NCAA XC third-placer, has not finished a race since she was 4th in the NCAA 5k in June.
NC State, who won 52-82 over Furman, didn't race Kelsey Chmiel either.

First major upset of the day as Boston College finishes 2nd in the women's race at the Northeast Regional while Heps champions Harvard are only 4th. How will that affect the projections? Stay tuned, we'll be back in a few minutes...

As expected, the NAU and BYU women went 1-2 to easily advance out of the Mountain Regional.
What's most impressive is that NAU scored just 39 points despite not running three of their top runners -- Elise Stearns, Annika Reiss, and Keira Moore, all of whom were in their top 5 at Nuttycombe. The Lumberjacks' incredible season rolls on and they'll head to NCAAs as the favorites.

No major changes from the original projections other than the order in which teams get in. Tennessee and Florida women both get auto spots while Ole Miss, Alabama, and Lipscomb are all set to earn at-large spots. Five teams from the South? When's the last time that happened?

Here are the 31 projected men's qualifiers after the South region men (teams that have officially qualified in bold). The South results didn't shake things up much. The regional rankings had Tennessee and Alabama getting auto spots and Florida State getting an at-large bid. Now it's Tennessee and Florida State getting auto spots and Alabama at-large.

Skipping Nuttycombe could come back to haunt the Oregon men -- right now, they're projected to miss NCAAs. We project every team qualifier ahead of Friday's regionals.

The first regional of the day has concluded with Tennessee sweeping the men's and women's races at the South Regional. In the men's race, Tennessee beat Florida State, 68-71, while on the women's side, Tennessee beat Florida, 61-79. Those are your first four teams to qualify for NCAAs.
Individually, Florida's Parker Valby won the women's race in 17:59.6 on what was clearly not a full 6k course. Alabama's Hillary Cheruiyot won the men's race in 28:26.8.
