Martín Fiz: “You've got to respect Marta for all that she has done”

“Thanks to her we have girls between the ages of 6 and 12 wanting to be like that girl that always ran with the pink headband.” “You can't question everything accomplished in track and field just because of one isolated incident.”

World Champion in the marathon in 1995 and Winner of the Prince of Asturias Sports Award in 1997, Martín Fiz doesn't believe that you can doubt all of track and field just because of the recent problems in doping. “You can't question everything that's been accomplished in track and field, and all of the success the sport has had, just because of an isolated incident.”

Fiz also asks that people show respect for Marta Domínguez at this difficult time. “People are still presumed innocent until proven guilty, and you have to respect her for everything she's accomplished in the last few years. Thanks to her we have lots of girls between the ages of 6 and 12 interested in running and trying to be like that girl who always ran with the pink headband.”
