Madrid’s 24th Circuit Court judge, Mercedes Pérez Barrios, has scheduled a hearing for Marta Domínguez on Wednesday, December 22. The track and field athlete is set to appear in court with her attorney, José Rodríguez, at 10:00 am.  Domínguez has been accused by Federal Police of a crime against the public’s health by allegedly distributing banned doping substances.  According to Domínguez, investigators found no trace of banned substances when they searched her home on Thursday, December 9.  The various substances that were seized in the raid have not yet been analyzed.

That said, it appears clear that federal agents are in possession of strong evidence, including recorded conversations from Domínguez’s tapped cell pone, that supports their theory of Domínguez’s involvement in the scandal.  The state’s attorney of Madrid is scheduled to present the same arguments to the judge on Wednesday that were presented on Sunday, December 12,  when Eufemiano Fuentes and Manuel Pascua Piqueras appeared before the court.  Fuentes, the doctor, and Pascua, the coach, are believed to be the masterminds behind the doping ring.  The substitute judge charged them both with doping, which carries a sentence of up to two years in prison.

The state’s attorney claims to be completely convinced by the evidence presented by the Federal Police in this investigation.  It is expected that sometime this week the judge will authorize Madrid’s antidoping laboratory to begin carrying out analyses of the products seized in the raids of various athletes’ homes in Madrid, El Escorial, Palencia, Segovia, Alicante, and Las Palmas.
