Lorenzo Nesi, the press chief for next Thursday’s XL Galan meet in Stockholm, wrote us today to confirm that Galen Rupp is running the 3000m there.

The main challenger to Galen is expected to be  Caleb Ndiku. Ndiku, the former World Junior 1500m champion, won the 3000m in Düsseldorf in 7:38.77 last week in his only indoor performance so far in 2013. Ndiku ran 7:35.42 last year at XL Galan and has run 7:30.99 outdoors.  Albert Rop who was second to Ndiku in Düsseldorf, won in Flanders, and ran 7:39.70, 7:39.59, and 7:41.53 in the span of 4 days last week is also in the field and could challenge.

The meet record is 7:30.51 by Kenenisa Bekele and the American record is Bernard Lagat’s 7:32.43. Galen ran 7:33.87 earlier this year in Boston.

Galen was slated to try and break the American 5000m record on Saturday in the UK, but the 5000m was cancelled and thus Galen switched his plans to the 3000m in Stockolm.
