The comeback of 2011 world junior triathlon champion and HS sub-4 minute miler Lukas Verzbicas (whom we have decided to nickname “#theRealLance” as he’s come back from a near death experience and is inspiring w/o drugs) continued this morning when he won the New Balance Running Ringling 4-Miler in 21:02 (5:15.5 pace).

The race was the second since his near fatal accident on July 31st. On Thanksgiving, Verzbicas ran the 2.5-mile Orland Park Turkey Trot in 13:32 (5:24.8 pace).

After the race, Lukas was full of smiles as he tweeted out, “1st race victory back today! Small but REALLY sweet,” along with the picture at the bottom of this article which shows he got a very old-school trophy.

To discuss this race, please see this messageboard thread. Note, there were incorrect reports that Verzbicas ran 19:24. We have confirmed with him that he ran 21:02.
