Far from a surprise for insiders as Kirwa is the wife of Joshua Kemei, the coach of half marathon world record holder Abraham Kiptum, who last month was suspended by the AIU for a biological passport violation. And let's hear it for her agent Marc Corstjens who had completed the triple crown of EPO positives as he also represented Ruth Jebet and Kipyegon Bett.

2016 LRC Year-End Rankings, Women's Marathon: London/Olympic Champ Jemima Sumgong Tops the List; Shalane Flanagan Top American
Sumgong, like Eliud Kipchoge, was the unquestioned world #1 in 2016. Flanagan was one of three Americans to finish in the top 10 at the Olympics (Amy Cragg and Desi Linden were the others) -- only the second time a country had pulled off that feat (after Kenya in 2008).

2015 LRC Year-End Rankings, Women's Marathon: Mare Dibaba Is World #1 (Barely); Desi Linden Leads Americans
Mare Dibaba broke 2:20 and won Worlds this year so she deserves to be #1, particularly when you factor in she was also 2nd in Boston. Speaking of Boston, there, Desi Linden ran the fastest time on the year for the US and placed the highest of any American in a major this year.
