I have not only never had issues with this shoe, but it is the only shoe that seems to work for me and because it is a older model it is cheaper then almost everything else.

In the age of high stack heights and foam, I still am in the camp where I like to feel close to the ground. These shoes feel the most minimalist, while still having the support needed. Very comfortable upper, and durable rubber bottom.

  • 880 best shoe ever ran in. Super stable and comfortable. Congrats New Balance.

This review is done in light of the price I paid for these trainers. They are currently on sale on most sites for well below their original MSRP, and if you can get your size you will be getting a great value. These shoes are quite versatile and can be worn for short and medium length distance runs as well as tempo and speed work. I like wearing them for speedier days and/or shorter days. I think the 880 V9's are a bit on the firm side when it comes to cushioning and I'd probably reach for my Brooks Ghosts for distances of an hour or more. Others might think otherwise. I'm 42 (43 in 2 days) now and probably weight about ten pounds more than my ideal weight so I might be over-sensitive to cushion level in running shoes.

I purchased this shoe at the start of August this past summer and it lasted me through cross country and half of indoor (i'm a high school runner). They were very durable, and the cushoning never really seemed to wear down or compress much even though I was wearing them probably longer than I should have. I used to wear shoes that were a bit more supportive, but that felt pretty clunky, and I've found that these are really good for neutral runners but who want still a bit of stability. I would say that although not heavy, they're not exactly super light so if you're looking for a solid shoe, these are great!

I’ve been a faithful Brooks Ghost wearer since 2013. With the last version, it felt more cushiony than I remembered and was really apparent when trying to run quicker paces. When it was time for a new pair of trainers, I automatically looked at the latest Ghost and the first thing the saleswoman said was “they added cushion to this version”. Ugh, no thanks. When I explained I was hoping for less cushion, she told me the New Balance 880’s wear comparable with less cushion. I tried them on and instantly liked the feel. It also helped they came in a bright pink color. I now have about 100 miles on the shoes and they feel like new. These are now my go to running shoe.

For being a forefoot striker, the 880's hold up pretty well for a neutral shoe. They're responsive enough to get rolling on regular/long runs, and would even be fine in workouts if need be. They've lasted me 400 miles on 2 pairs thus far, so they hold up quite nicely.

The new 880 is a solid daily trainer! I've put less than 100 miles on my pair, and while I don't think it is as versatile as some of my previous trainers, it is comfortable enough to handle the load of miles in marathon training!
