I’m a sucker for a curved last as I believe speed and active responses are faster so my marks are higher with this Merrel Synthesis Flex shoe because a flat last means flatter times. The tongue is shorter but I did not like that because I like a small amount of tongue to adjust with looped laces usually tucked under the tied laces. It’s a pet peeve of mine and this shoe just might not have a bit longer tongue which looses star points. Whoopsie. The upper felt soft and flexible and was able to adequately keep flying tree limbs and rocks at bay. The midsole could be a bit stiffer as the comfort was there but not the stability factor. I could flex the whole shoe but I don’t like that aspect because I think stiffness keeps my ankles healthy and stable. The cushion and bottom tread were both good for keeping my knees happy. The ankle height was fine. No rocks got in and the shoe held up in mud or water just fine. overall aesthetic vision was iffy... I like a bit wider of a toe box in a curved last because my toes need breathing room and this shoe does not provide my toes well...especially after long runs when my feet swell. Negative stars there. The color was ho-hum...green/blue/black...such typical colors. Overall a good shoe outside of the things I mentioned. I have an extra two dead toe nails due to the Synthesis Flex but I ran over 500 miles in them and they still have a little bit more to go so... something is right there. Cheers
