Moad Zahafi of Texas Tech and Morocco Runs 1:43.79 World Leader at 800
by LetsRun.com
April 16, 2022
Moad Zahafi of Texas Tech ran a 1:43.69 world-leading 800m at the Tom Jones 800m to easily defeat NCAA indoor champion Brandon Miller of Texas A&M who finished a distant third in 1:47.20. John Rivera of Ole Miss, the NCAA indoor 3rd placer, was second.
We did not see the race but Miller led at 400m in 50.72 with Zahafi right on his heels in 50.94. The fast opening pace took its toll on Miller, but Zahafi who had run 1:44.78 last year before becoming a grad student at Texas Tech this year, was able to hold on for the huge PR and become the first person indoors or outdoors under 1:45 this year.
What a run.
