EUGENE, Ore. – As part of its highly anticipated outdoor schedule, the Oregon track and field team will host five meets at the newly reimagined Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The Ducks’ first home competition in nearly three years will be the Hayward Premiere, set for April 2-3. The meet will be the first in Eugene since the 2018 NCAA Championships.

“Our student-athletes are excited to compete at home for the first time at the reimaged Hayward Field, and we are all thrilled to see their energy and excitement as we prepare to host events in the greatest track and field facility in the world,” said Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens. “Our Oregon student-athletes have been anticipating their first opportunity to compete in this incredible venue, and they will soon begin a new chapter in the storied history of the Oregon track and field program with the first meets at the reimagined Hayward Field.”

The capacity limits established through the updated public health guidance and current county risk level will permit a limited number of guests of student-athletes and coaches during meets at Hayward Field, beginning with the Hayward Premiere. UO Athletics will continue to collaborate with public health authorities and the UO Incident Management Team regarding welcoming the general public into our venues, and any updates to this process will be shared when available.

“The health and safety of our student-athletes and community remains our top priority, and we will have strict protocols in place to create the safest possible environment for everyone,” added Mullens. “While we will only be hosting guests of student-athletes and coaches as the meet schedule begins, we do look forward to the time when we can host the most dedicated and passionate track and field fans in the world at Hayward Field.”

The remainder of the Ducks’ home schedule at Hayward Field includes the West Coast Classic (April 17), Oregon Relays (April 23-24), Oregon Twilight (May 7) and NCAA Championships (June 9-12). The West Coast Classic will be held in conjunction with an additional site hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson.

“The excitement level for this upcoming outdoor season and the return of Hayward Field to the competition schedule is at an all-time high,” head coach Robert Johnson said. “We can’t wait to have track and field meets back in Eugene, and seeing the student-athletes competing at Hayward Field again will be a special moment for this program. This has been a long time coming and we are incredibly thankful to everyone involved in getting us to this point.

“Part of that Hayward magic will be missing without the fans. They have been waiting to come back and experience Hayward Field again, and as soon as we’re able to do so, we’ll welcome them back.”
