American Elle Purrier shocked the field in the women’s Wanamer Mile at the 2020 NYRR Millrose Games.
Not only did the unheralded American the race over Konstanze Kolerhalfen, Jemma Reekie and Gabriela Debues-Stafford, who set German, British, and Canadian records respectively, but Purrier ran 4:16.85 to crush the old American record of 4:20.5 by Mary Slaney. It was the second fastest indoor mile ever.
