St. Paul, Minn. – October 6, 2018 – Heather Kampf of Minneapolis, a three-time winner of the Medtronic TC 1 Mile, added a victory in the TC 5K, presented by Fredrikson & Bryon, to her extensive running resume today as Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend kicked off.
The Team USA Minnesota star, who earned an NCAA title while representing the University of Minnesota, won the women’s race in16:39. Khalid Hussein of Minneapolis won the men’s division in 15:12.
Matt Longen of Mankato was the top male finisher at the TC 10K, presented by Fredrikson & Byron, in 32:48, while Alyssa Breu of St. Paul topped the women’s field in 39:12.
The TC 5K and TC 10K drew more than 4500 runners of all ages to the State Capitol grounds this morning.
Additionally, more than two thousand runners, mostly kids, competed in the KARE 11 Family Mile, presented by Medica, part of the Medtronic TC Family Events, which also included a diaper dash, toddler trot and half mile for its youngest participants.
The day wasn’t just for kids; 76 corporate teams with more than a thousand runners total raced in the Corporate Team Challenge competitions of the TC 5K and 10K.
“The weather was a little chilly,” Twin Cities In Motion executive director Virginia Brophy Achman said. “but it stayed dry and marathon weekend got off to a great start. Seeing kids enjoying a running event is always inspiring.”
Medtronic TC 10 Mile and Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon
Racing kicks off tomorrow at 6:54 a.m. with the 20th anniversary Medtronic TC 10 Mile, where professional runners will compete for the USATF Men’s and Women’s 10 Mile Championships. The 37th annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon follows at 7:55 a.m.for wheelers and duos and 8:00 for runners.
More than 30,000 runners of all ages have registered to participate in Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend events.
