10-Year-Old Arielle Avina Wins Rock ‘N’ Roll San Diego 5K In 19:20

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – 10-year-old Arielle Avina (Murrieta, Cali.) shocked the finish line crowd today as she won the female at the Synchrony Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego 5K presented by Brooks. With this year’s Boston Marathon Champion, Desiree Linden on hand to support and inspire runners, Avina found an extra gear past other competitors finishing the race in a time of 19:20 as she became the youngest female to ever win a Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series 5K event. Baxter Arguinchona from Cardiff, California took home the men’s 5K race with a time of 16:59.

Race weekend continues tomorrowSunday, June 3, 2018 with the Synchrony Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon. America’s Finest City will greet runners as they start in Balboa Park then pass through scenic San Diego before finishing at the all-new finish line at the Waterfront Park. Approximately 27,000 runners are registered to compete over the two-day event weekend. The Revivalists will headline the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series following Sunday’s Synchrony Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon in Waterfront Park. The concert will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. is open and free to the public.
