Today the Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced that Joan Benoit Samuelson will not run in tomorrow’s event due to illness. Benoit Samuelson was set to compete in the 2015 event on Sunday, October 11 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of her victory in Chicago.
“Joan is an example of the amazing performances over the years at the marathon,” said Carey Pinkowski, Bank of America Chicago Marathon Executive Race Director. “We are honored to have her in Chicago.”
“I was looking forward to racing once again on the streets of Chicago, but unfortunately it wasn’t in the cards,” said Benoit Samuelson. “While I won’t be running on the roads, I will be running on the sidelines to cheer on the more than 40,000 runners tomorrow as they celebrate their stories and journeys.”
