Update: Flanagan ran 31:03 to break the record.

As part of the Tilburg Ten Miles on Sunday in the Netherlands, there is a fast professional women’s 10k race, the Rabobank Tilburg Ladies 10km, and American record holder at 10,000m on the track Shalane Flanagan will be attempting to break Lynn Jennings American road record of 31:06 from 1990. There will also be an 8km split, in hopes Flanagan can break Deena Kastor’s 8km mark (24:35 from 2005).

Tilburg is known for its fast times as it is where Haile Gebrselassie set the 10 mile world record, Tirunesh Dibaba ran 30:30 in 2013, and last year Betsy Saina ran a 30:46 world leader.

Saina is in this year’s field. Interview with Flanagan below. The race website says Flanagan was inspired to run Tilburg by her mom, former world record holder in the marathon Cheryl Treworgy (wno is now a professional photographer and took the photo at the right of Shalane at Worlds). Flanagan is coming off her 6th place finish at Worlds.

Thanks to media director Bart van Aalst for sending us this info. If you’d like to follow the race,  Bart says, “Local broadcaster Omroep Brabant will have a live stream of the finish area on their website www.omroepbrabant.nl . I’ll try to put on a link on our twitter account @tilburgtenmiles, also try to follow #tilburgtenmiles for updates (our resultsman is @iwanoprins and has quick access to times). Our broadcaster will make a half an hour transmission on the event, that will be placed on their website around 19.00h CET (approx 13.00h ET).”
