The 2015 USA Road 5k Champs will be held once again this weekend in Providence, Rhode Island, at the CVS Health Downtown 5k.

Last year, Molly Huddle won her 4th US 5k title on the roads and Diego Estrada won for the men. This year’s race looks even more exciting as elite athlete coordinator James Harvey, Mark Carroll‘s old coach, has secured a fantastic field. And once again, you will be able to watch it live from the comfort of your computer screen as it will be broadcast live on WPRI.com Channel 12 – Providence’s CBS affiliate. The race starts at 11 a.m. ET. The race also will appear taped on USATF.tv.

On the women’s side, the race will feature a battle between the American 5,000- and 10,000-meter record holders Molly Huddle and Shalane Flanagan. Throw in Providence-based Emily Sisson, the 2015 NCAA indoor and outdoor champ at 5000, as well as 2012 US Olympian at 5000 Kim Conley, who is trying to get back on track after an injury cost her entire 2015 track season, and you’ve got quite a field.

On the men’s side of the ledger, Diego Estrada is back to try to defend his title and he will have to fend off the likes of newly-minted American Sam Chelanga, Pan American Games silver medallist at 5000 David Torrence and world championship 5th placer in the steeple Dan Huling.

The men’s field is certainly pretty strong but one thing that struck us is it’s a dream field if only we could go back in time say, five years. In 2010, imagine if we told you the following guys would be racing a 5000 against each other live on TV – German Fernandez, Dathan Ritzenhein and Chris Solinsky. Our messageboard would crash.

In 2009, Ritzenhein ran 12:56 for 5000 and Fernandez ran a world junior indoor record of 3:55 for the mile and a US junior record of 13:25 for 5000, and in 2010 Solinsky became the first non-African under 27:00 by running 26:59 before going on to become the most-prolific sub-13:00 runner born in America as he dipped under 13:00 three times that summer.
