Seven-time NCAA champion Abbey D’Agostino of Dartmouth College has signed with Total Sports Management US, and has officially turned pro.  The Johnson City, Tenn., athlete management firm will now represent D’Agostino to both potential sponsors and event organizers.  The 22 year-old from Topsfield, Mass., just completed her magnificent and surprising collegiate career after finishing third in the 5000m at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., last weekend.

“Anyone who meets this young lady realizes that she’s special and has a bright future, on and off the field of play,” Total Sports Management managing director Chris Layne told Race Results Weekly today in a telephone interview.  “I’m certainly honored to be part of her professional career.”

D’Agostino, who was not a star in high school, became one of the most successful distance runners in in Ivy League history under the coaching of Mark Coogan, an Olympic marathoner.  In her four years at Dartmouth, she amassed seven NCAA titles: cross country (2013), indoor 3000m and 5000m (2013 and 2014), and outdoor 5000m (2012 – 2014).  She was also fifth at the 2012 USA Olympic Trials 5000m, and has notched personal bests of 4:09.77i for 1500m, 4:28.31i for the mile, 8:51.91i for 3000m and 15:11.35 for 5000m.

At the Ivy League Championships last month (known as the Heptagonal Championships) D’Agostino won the 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m over a period of two days, scoring 30 of Dartmouth’s 149 points.  She had never run a 10,000m race before.

“Abbey to me is the greatest NCAA female athlete the Ivy League has ever produced,” Coach Coogan said in an interview last week.  “She is going down as one of the all-time great college athletes, period.”

Layne confirmed that he had already landed a commercial sponsor for D’Agostino and that an announcement would come soon.  He also said that she would run in the upcoming USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., wearing her new sponsor’s colors.  He was clearly pleased to have landed D’Agostino as a client who was highly sought by other athlete management companies.

“She’s such a composed young lady,” Layne said.  “She has this relentless fight and we can see it.  Her body of work says an awful lot.”
