Catherine Ndereba Has Not Retired, Plans On Still Competing

Earlier today we linked to this Xinhua story on former marathon world record holder Catherine Ndereba‘s retirement.

Catherine’s manager, Lisa Buster, has written us to say the article was incorrect and Catherine is not retiring.

Catherine has no more plans to represent Kenya in the Olympics or World Champs, but plans on competing. At 41, it is unlikely she’d make a Kenyan team anyway.

Lisa wrote, “While she has no plans to represent Kenya internationally at World Championships or Olympic Games (which is what she said after competing for her team at the Kenya Prisons Championships), she still plans to continue competitive racing, and expects to be back to racing shape this summer in the U.S.  The Chinese publication that published the first report would do well to use someone with better English translation skills.”

Article continues below player.

It will be interesting to see what Catherine does on the roads this summer. She has not been sub 2:30 in the marathon since 2009.
