High jumper Brigetta Barrett is becoming a new young star of American track and field. She got the silver in the high jump today to go with her silver last year in London.
She’s making a name for herself off the track as well. In Monaco, after the Diamond League she did a one song, sing and dance to entertain the enthusiastic crowd. Tonight in Moscow she entertained the reporters in the mixed zone when she sang “Amazing Grace” after a request from Spikes Mag.

Then she was asked by Swedish media Expressen about fellow high jumper Emma Green Tregaro being advised that rainbow painting her nails in protest of Russia’s anti-gay propaganda laws might be in violation of IAAF rules. Emma Green Tregaro competed today with red nails instead of the rainbow nails she had in the qualifying round.
Barrett who glittery nails herself with “Christ” on them stood up for freedom saying,
“When does anybody have control what her nails are painted? I think that’s jacked. I think that is really stupid and I think God it wasn’t me.
We are as human beings. We are competitors and participants of sport, but we are individuals, free and rights having individuals that should be able to wear anything that honors our country…I don’t understand why anybody is concerned about her nails. I think stuff like that should be off limits she should be allowed to put whatever on her nails”
