Wisconsin Men, Oregon Women* #1 in the LetsRun.com Pre Season NCAA Cross Country Polls
By LetsRun.com
September 20, 2012
The LetsRun.com NCAA pre season college cross country polls are out and Mick Byrne's Wisconsin Badgers are a strong #1 on the men's side, while Robert Johnson's Oregon women are #1 on the women's side.
On the men's side, Wisconsin being #1 is not a surprise as they also get 10 of 12 first place votes in the USTFCCCA coaches poll and are the defending national champions. If Mick Byrne makes it two in a row maybe people will finally start recognizing him as a great coach (he had four top four finishes at NCAAs in five years at Iona before going to Wisconsin). Oklahoma State is #2 and the LetsRun.com faithful know what Mark Wetmore's Colorado Buffaloes can do as they are #3.
On the women's side, Oregon is #1 but it should come with an asterisk. Twice as many people picked Greg Metcalfe's Washington Huskies to come out on top. However, a few people left Washington entirely off their ballots and that made the results what they were. Washington nearly won NCAAs last year, only losing by 8 points. If the Huskies keep performing well, they'll soon be an automatic on the ballots of even the casual fan. This is the first year Robert Johnson (not LetsRun.com's Robert Johnson) leads the Oregon Ducks instead of Vin Lananna. Should be interesting to see what happens in November in Kentucky (nationals are not at Terre Haute this year).
So enjoy the polls below. Some of the regional polls are way off as not that many people voted. So if you are upset with their accuracy, then vote next time.
