Hammer Time Kicks Off 2012 Olympic Trials Successfully

Matt Taylor was wrong. Hammer Time at the Nike Campus was a huge success.

Well I at least think it was, but I have no frame of reference because I've never watched a hammer competition in my life. Before a festive crowd of "3000" (not sure how they came up with that number as no tickets were taken), the hammer throwers said they loved the atmosphere and the sport got more attention than it ever has.

As for the competition on the women's side: Amber Campbell, Amanda Bingson, and Jessica Cosby got the top 3 spots. Bingson of UNLV also got the "A" standard for the first time so that will be your Olympic team.

Keelin Godsey, the transgender athlete, who is a biological woman who lives as a man outside of the hammer world, finished 6th 5th.

Dude in Plain Green T Shirt Finishes Second
On the men's side Kibwe Johnson and AG Kruger the only guys with the "A" standard coming in finished 1st and 3rd and will be your Olympic team. The story of the day in our minds was the dude in the plain green tshirt, Chris Cralle, formerly of Sam Houston state who prd to finish second. He won't be going to the Olympics because he doesn't have the "A" standard. Afterwards in his Texas drawl, he had no complaints, thanked his parents, and said this was the best way to pick the Olympic team.

We've got in-laws who went to Sam Houston State but we swear we liked the guy before we knew that.  Just some dude in a tshirt who was yelling after he threw the hammer.

We present to you the first LetsRun.com Hammer Throw interview with Chris Cralle.
