2012 US Olympic Trials Women's 5000m Interviews

In the most gut-wrenching race of the night Julie Culley passed American record holder Molly Huddle on the inside to win the 2012 Olympic Trials.

The big story however was the battle for third. 2012 US #1 Julia Lucas had been leading from three laps to go until 200m in the race. She still had a big lead over third place Abbey D'Agostino with 100m to go. D'Agostino had a lead over 4th placer Kim Conley. Down the final straight, Lucas was completely out of steam. Conley was closing and caught D'Agostino. They both were catching Lucas who just had to get across the line. Just when Lucas seemed able to hold them off, the line was there, she could not lean, and Conley edged her for third by .04. Another .15 back was D'Agostino. The tv coverage did not do this one justice.
