BOSTON – United States Olympian and 2012 silver medalist Galen Rupp will compete in the mile run at the 2013 Terrier Invitational, which will be held Jan. 26 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.

Rupp, who won silver in the 10,000 meters in London this past July, will be part of an elite field of runners who will all attempt to run a sub-4:00 mile at one of the fastest indoor facilities in the Northeast. A 14-time All-American at Oregon, Rupp’s personal best in the mile is 3:57.10, which he achieved on Feb. 4, 2012, at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.

Two Terriers will be in the field, including the reigning national runner-up in the mile, Rich Peters, who will run this race unattached. Sophomore Stuart Ross, who set the America East standard in the 1,000m run at the BU Multi-Team Meet on Jan. 17, will join Peters. Other collegiate runners expected to compete include Northeastern’s Eric Jenkins, Oklahoma’s Riley Masters and Providence’s Julian Matthews. Former Friar David McCarthy and former Arkansas standout Dorian Ulrey are also expected to run in this elite field.

“We’re really excited about having a silver medalist running at the meet and having Alberto Salazar as his coach is a little bit of a homecoming,” Boston University assistant director of track & field Bruce Lehane said. “We’re excited about having the event and there’s been a lot of interest in the race. We think it will be a really promising race with a spectacular result.”

Peters, Jenkins and Matthews all ran sub-4:00 miles at the Track and Tennis Center during last year’s Valentine Invitational, with Peters winning the exciting race with a school-record time of 3:57.83.

The Terrier Invitational will begin at 10:45 a.m., with the men’s elite one mile run to commence at approximately 3:50 p.m.
