The 2012 IAAF pro track and field season got underway in the Northern Hemisphere last night with the Jamaica International Invitational in Kingston, Jamaica.

The meet featured the individual outdoor debut of Usain Bolt and he did not disappoint with a very impressive 9.82 win. Training partner Yohan Blake, who ran 9.90 earlier this year, made his 200m debut and won in 19.91.

The big surprise of the night was in the women's 400m where Sanya Richards Ross, the recent World Indoor Champion, was upset by Jamaica's Novlene Williams-Mills' 49.99 world leader.

In the women's 100m, Carmelita Jeter super quick 10.81 defeated Kelly-Ann Baptiste (10.86) and showed Jeter keeps getting better with age. (According to http://www.all-athletics.com/ Jeter had never broken 11.50 until she was 26).

In the distances, Aman Wote, who ran the best anchor in the DMR at Penn, won the 1500 ahead of  S. Africa's Peter Van Der Westhuizen (3:35.92), Canada's Taylor Milne and AJ Acosta (3:40.26).  If the results are correct, Acosta actually "ran "the steeple (10:17.17) an hour before the 1500 and got trounced by winner Ben Bruce (8:34). Hillary Sillingwerff (4:12.09) beat fellow Candian Malindi Emore in the women's 1500.
