Men's Invitational Mile: Andy Bayer Runs NCAA Leading 3:58.23

Bloomington, IN - Andy Bayer dipped under 4 minutes for the 3rd time in his career to win the IU Relays Invitational Mile with an NCAA leading 3:58.23. The time was also top in the US as well as 3rd in the world for 2012. The race went out in 59.2, slowing and going through 600 in about 1:30, then hitting 800 in 1:59.5. Kristopher Gauson also went sub-4 with 3:59.95, while David Bishop (4:00.10), and IU's De'Sean Turner (4:00.13) and Ben Hubers (4:00.78) just missed.

Afterwards, Bayer said, "I think I'm in better shape than last year." He may attempt the mile, DMR, 3000m triple at NCAAs to try and help Indiana improve on its 6th place finish from last year. As for today's run, he was pleased with the result and just needs a little sharpening saying, "I would have liked to been 3:57 or 3:56 but we're coming off of some hard training so we decided to play it a little conservative" Full race video (Editor's Note: Race video below is now from IU Athletics)and interview with Bayer below.
