Indiana University Relays: Andy Bayer Gets The Win With A 3:58.23 Mile

Men's Invitational Mile: Andy Bayer Runs NCAA Leading 3:58.23

Bloomington, IN - Andy Bayer dipped under 4 minutes for the 3rd time in his career to win the IU Relays Invitational Mile with an NCAA leading 3:58.23. The time was also top in the US as well as 3rd in the world for 2012. The race went out in 59.2, slowing and going through 600 in about 1:30, then hitting 800 in 1:59.5. Kristopher Gauson also went sub-4 with 3:59.95, while David Bishop (4:00.10), and IU's De'Sean Turner (4:00.13) and Ben Hubers (4:00.78) just missed.

Afterwards, Bayer said, "I think I'm in better shape than last year." He may attempt the mile, DMR, 3000m triple at NCAAs to try and help Indiana improve on its 6th place finish from last year. As for today's run, he was pleased with the result and just needs a little sharpening saying, "I would have liked to been 3:57 or 3:56 but we're coming off of some hard training so we decided to play it a little conservative" Full race video (Editor's Note: Race video below is now from IU Athletics)and interview with Bayer below.

Bloomington, IN - After a 4:27 first mile, Team Indiana Elite's Jordan Fife broke away and ran the rest of the race clear of the of the field to win in 8:14.10.

Women's Invitational 3k: Mason Cathy Wins With 9:21.52
Bloomington, IN - After being called back from a no start due to clock malfunction, a pack of 3 or 4 broke away from the rest of the field with Saucony athlete Mason Cathey leading most of the race. There was a late challenge by Butler's Kristy Legg, but Cathey was able to muscle back for the win with Butler's Katie Clark taking 2nd.
