Our world famous prediction contest is back!
The Track Trials start Friday in Eugene and we're rolling out our $200,012 LRC Brooks Prediction Contest just in time.
How It Works
The process is quite simple. On the next few pages, you will pick who you think will get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each running event, plus the men's shot put, decathlon, and women's long jump. Inevitably, some competitors may drop out at the last minute or your buddy may call you with inside info and you'll want to change your picks. We have a feature that allows you to change your picks up until about 10 minutes before a particular event is scheduled to start. Note: The first event of the contest closes at 6:05 pm Eastern on Friday, a few hours after the start of the decathlon, but we wanted to give you all as much time as possible. Also, you don't have to fill all of your picks at once. For those of you who work for a living, this is a very important feature. We know you can only fool your boss for so long and make it look like you are actually doing some work, so now you hopefully won't get fired for participating in the contest. You can partially fill out the bracket and then come back later.
Even if you know very little about some of the competitors competing, we have a form chart to help you out.
The scoring is as follows:
- Each person
that you correctly pick to finish in the top 3
= 1 point.
It doesn't matter if you actually get the pick exactly right. If you pick someone for 1st and they finish 3rd you still get the point. Vice versa is true as well. If you pick them to get third and they get third, it's still only one point.
- Each event winner picked correctly = 3 more points (you pick someone for first and they get first).
- Each event picked perfectly - All three picks: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the right order = 2 more points (here the order is key).
Do you understand the rules fully? The following example should explain any questions you have. If you pick 1st, 2nd, and 3rd correctly in any event in the proper order, it is 3 points (1 point for each person in the top 3) + 3 points (for getting the winner correct) + 2 points (bonus for perfect pick of top 3 in order) = 8 points.
The more points the better.
Now For The Prizes:
Perfect Ballot: $200,012 A perfect ballot means you pick the top three in
the correct order for every event for both sexes - doing it for just
one sex doesn't count as a perfect ballot. 1 winner maximum. If more than 1 person has a perfect ballot, the winner will be selected by random drawing. The $200,012 will be paid out over 10 years.
Perfect Track Distance Ballot (Both Sexes): $2,012 A perfect ballot means you pick the top three in the correct order for the 800, 1,500, steeplechase, 5,000 and 10,000 for both sexes - doing it for just one sex doesn't count as a perfect ballot. 3 winners maximum. If more than 1 person has a perfect ballot, the winner will be selected by random drawing.
Now, we know you're almost certainly not going to have a perfect ballot, but thanks to Brooks, who is partnering with LRC to bring you this contest, we've got some great prizes.
1st Place: $250 Gift Certificate At BrooksRunning.com
2nd Through 10th Places: $100 Gift Certificates At BrooksRunning.com
We're not done yet. We want you to spread the love of little LRC. Now a lot of you have heard of little LRC; otherwise you wouldn't be here. And we're not so little any more. We continue to set record traffic numbers in 2012 and that's before the Olympic Trials and Olympics start. We're the largest independent entity that covers Olympic-level running on a daily basis in the US for sure, possibly the world.
However, the sport of track and field needs all the help it can get. We want you to encourage your friends, your family and your co-workers to watch the Track and Field Trials in Eugene and to check out LetsRun.com. In our contest, you can create your own group and play against your friends. With that goal in mind, we're going to give a $250 Brooksrunning.com gift certificate to the winner of the group with the largest number of newcomers to LetsRun.com in it. So create your group, invite some newcomers to LetsRun.com, email us about your group, and if it's the largest, the winner of the group gets $250. To be classified a newcomer just means you haven't participated in a LRC contest before.
We're still not done yet with the Brooks gift certificates.
$100 BrooksRunning.com Gift Certificate to one random participant in our contest.
So thanks to Brooks for realizing the greatness of you all and giving out $1,500 in Gift Certificates.
Group Scoring: Remember, you can sign up to play in a group and play against your friends. So please let them know about this contest as we want this to be the biggest one in our history.
Oh yeah, only one entry per person. No computerized/mechanical entries. I'm sure we should have a bunch of legal stuff here. How about this: your picks and your login name are not private and may be displayed on our website. And we're not responsible if the free contest gets cancelled for any reason including if our database crashes. We'll do our best to keep everything running smoothly. The top 3 in any event are final when we determine them at the end of the meet and this may not be the ultimate final top 3 (mainly due to drug busts in the future). Additionally, this contest is obviously void where prohibited by law - which states and countries that is, we don't know. Also you need to be of the right minimum age, which we'll say is 15 to be safe. No purchase necessary. And yes, we can win our own contest. If we beat you, you'll hear about it for sure. The $200,012 prize is the sole responsibility of LetsRun.com.
We have a guide to help you with your picks but are not responsible for any errors in the guide.
*And we'll try to keep events open until 10 minutes before each event, but we're not guaranteeing anything.
Please note: For tie-breaking purposes, we'll first look at the number of 1st places correctly chosen. If there's still a tie, we'll look at the number of 2nd places correctly chosen, and then if need be, the number of 3rd places correctly chosen. If there still is a tie, we'll conduct a random drawing.
Sound easy? Then get started.
You'll be able to login and check your scores during the contest. You need a letsrun.com login to play. If you have any questions, email us at [email protected].
