We've always said the best part about working at LetsRun.com is interacting with the people who visit the site each and every day and make it so great. The visitors of LetsRun.com all share a passion for the sport - whether they are fast or slow, young or old. While we say fast or slow, it's true that often the visitors are some of the best runners in the world.

Case in point - we got an email recently from 3:54 miler David Torrence, one of the founders of the non-profit Bay Area Track Club. We get a lot of great emails in the letsrun.com inbox and over the Holidays they really piled up so we almost didn't see it (so if you are an average Joe or Jane and are angry as you feel blown off by LRC, don't take it personally; we've been blowing everyone off). The email that he sent was a reminder that the 2nd annual Bay Area Cross-Country Challenge is coming up next weekend, as it will take place on Sunday January 15th, 2012 in the heart of San Francisco in the Golden Gate Park - Polo Fields Upper Dirt Track. He wanted us to help get the word out and we are more than happy to help. To us, cross-country is the purest form of distance running and needs to be a key part of the sport.

Torrence's email is pretty self explanatory:

I'm writing you on behalf of our non-profit, the Bay Area Track Club. We are putting on the second edition of the BAXC on Sunday, January15th 2012. We are having the Men's 8k, Women's 6k, a Community/All-Comer's 4k, and Road 5k. We recognized (and very much appreciated) your commentary on our event last year, and wondered if there was any way you could help us promote this event?

Being that this year is the olympic trials for the marathon and no World XC, we understand that there is less emphasis on Cross Country. However, we feel that it is important to keep the sport relevant by continuing this event, and reaching out to people who either never tried XC, or just want to give it another shot.

We are also willing to offer a special letsrun.com discount, with a coupon code called "resolution" for $15 off registration.

Please let us know if you can help with this, whether in a Week That Was or in any other way you deem proper.

Thanks for your consideration, and take care!

So support the sport of cross-country and the Bay Area Track Club by getting your butt out to the great event. There are open races, even a walk, so being out of shape isn't an excuse. More info can be found at the race's website: http://www.bayareatrackclub.com/page/BAXC-2012.

Registration is normally $40, but if you type in "resolution," you will save $15.
