Yenew Alamirew Runs 7:27.26 To Kick Off Diamond League in Doha in 2011
By Letsrun.com
May 6, 2011
We'll have more from the LetsRun.com perspective on this meet later Saturday, but the highlight was the stacked men's 3000m where young Ethiopian talent Yenew Alamirew (who came out of no where last year to run 7:28 in Milan) started off his 2011 outdoor season where he left off 2010, on top, winning in an impressive 7:27.26 over former World Champ Eliud Kipchoge. The race had a ton of depth as 12 guys went sub 7:35 (for reference American Chris Solinsky's pr is 7:34.32 and 6 Americans have ever gone sub 7:35).
One of our favorite announcers, Tim Hutchings (also a fourth place finisher at the 1984 Olympic 5000m) said it best when he said, "Fancy running 7:34 and finishing in 12th place."
We won't ruin the last lap for you if you want to watch the highlights below. Results below video.
